Ideas can take time to form when working on woven textiles, so, sketchbook work is vital too for this medium. I always have one or two sketchbooks on the go! I love experimenting with different fibres for my woven textile art. Sisal is the most recent fibre used in my creative work, but linen continues to be the most predominant yarn for my fibre art…..sometimes bringing in paper encourages my experimental nature to see where weaving can go.
In contrast to weaving, creating paintings gives me the opportunity to work with more spontaneity…similar to the urgency I experience when composing music.
My most recent artwork has been looking at the life of Princess Scota from Ancient Egypt, whose destiny took her to a Northern land…Scotland..the country I am from. Some of these sketches paintings and weavings appear on my gallery images on this website, along with a photo of the Google book I created called “Scotas story in weavings”.
You can also view among my gallery images a recent weave I created and sent to “ Under One Sky “who do wonderful work for homeless people in London..
